Another sea day. The highlight of the day is to learn how to do a Haka. It is really tough because you have to learn the language and the movement at the same time. After explanations of the basic moves and practicing on the sideline, the passengers are allowed on center stage. We all waited for the first brave soul to come forward. It didn't take long and then almost instantaneously the center circle is packed with people. After a few tries, most can manage to follow but I have to admit, the intensity is totally missing. I tried but I know it is far from what it needs to be to scare your enemy.
I went to a few more destination information sessions to try to prepare for the port days. They try to pack in all the port-of-calls in the first few days, presumably so the locals (the two presenters) don't have to stick with us for the entire cruise. I found the guy's presentations are more to the point, also shorter. The woman's presentations were not to my liking. Too many anecdotes rather than practical tips and she seems to put too much negatives on things or places that she did not like. All in all, I found these sessions useful to supplement what I found out about these places on the internet; particularly about methods to get from port to town as well as places that are no longer operating.
We tried to start our dinner earlier in hope of getting seats for the show right after. But then after we had our dinner, we were too happy to stay seated to socialize and this night, we did not find any seats in the main theatre and had to go to a simulcast in a smaller room. We did not think that the singer (tribute to Freddie Mercury) is any good. Being not in the live show definitely did not help.
Tonight is the second round of the audition for the singing competition. They managed only 4 more contestants, making a total of 10. At the end of the audition, the organizer indicated that they are considering organizing a third round of auditions, trying to get more contestants, meaning that they were hoping for enough high quality contestants in the finale. We will have to see what happens.
