Travel Days

Travel Day(s)

I have never had such a long travel day that it stretches into days.  We left our house at 6 pm on Tuesday and eventually arriving Thursday night at 10 pm in Sydney. That is more than 2 days! But wait, we do have to subtract 13 hours time difference and that still makes it 39 hours.  We had lots of wait time and we did leave home early to allow Dennis to get home from Toronto Airport at reasonable hours.  The flight times do come to 24 hours and that is a lot.  The longest I had before was something like 26 or 28 hours door-to-door.

The trip itself is relatively uneventful. I usually have no problem with my fellow passengers except for the usual boarding chaos and sizes of cabin baggage. This time, however, I had someone on my left  who kept encroaching into my space beyond the armrest.  I understand that the person in the middle seats of the 4-seat row is in tough because they have to put their arm somewhere.  But there is no need to go beyond that.  And that is not the worst.  This person has body odor, though not overwhelming, stop and imagine putting up with for 15 hours.

We learn that our Canadian passport is a ePassport, meaning that the passport can be scanned by a machine (there my be other agreement among countries also). Anyhow, there is self-serve procedure similar to the Canadian process that can make things go a lot faster.  I like their arrangement that there are occasional machines along the way which people actually jumped in to use when they are available.  That cuts down on the eventual line-up.  All-in-all, it seems to be more effective than the Canadian system.  People who do not have ePassport are in a completely different stream so they don't slow down people who can go a lot faster.

Getting to the Airbnb by taxi is easy albeit a bit expensive.  Winnie got a roaming sim card in Hong Kong for me that can be used in Australia and New Zealand. Got the Opal card at the W H Smith store at the arrival hall at the airport.  I am ready for Sydney.

Home for a few days
